Homework Categories:
- Second graders should spend an average of 20 minutes a night on homework, in addition to daily reading time.
- Please ensure that your child completes homework daily and help answer any questions as needed, but refrain from doing the work yourself.
- Graded work will be sent home periodically throughout the week when it is ready. Workbooks are kept in the classroom. If you would ever like to come in to check your child's workbooks, please feel free.
- Please make sure your child turns in their homework daily. Late homework will only be accepted through the Friday of the week it is given. If it is not turned in by Friday, no credit will be given for the work. Late work will be deducted 5% for each day it is late.
Make-up Work:
When students are absent, it is the student's responsibility to:
- Take all missed work home
- Turn in the assignments on time
- They have as many days to turn them in when they return to school as they were absent. (Example: missed two days = have two days to turn in work)
- If they are given the work ahead of time, it is due when they return
- PARENTS: Please contact me in advance (within a minimum of 5 school days - new LLA policy) if you know that your child will be absent. Please fill out the PASA form provided by the office.
Homework Categories:
- Math – Each day (Mon-Fri), students will have a page of math homework. These pages help reinforce the concepts we’re learning in class. If you are ever confused about their math assignment, please log on to the Big Ideas Math website, where you can access their student book as well as many other helpful resources.
- Spelling – Spelling tests are every Friday. A word list will be sent home every Monday. Please study these words daily!
- Theme-Related Projects – Occasionally, students may do theme-related activities to reinforce the Science/Social Studies concepts.
- Reading – Each night, students will need to read for 20 minutes at home. They should read AR books at their level. They will be given opportunities in class to take AR quizzes over the books they've read. A book should be read a minimum of 2 times (if not 3) before a student takes an AR quiz.
